Millions of Americans every year live with some form of upper limb impairment, whether that be limb difference or limb weakness. This impacts their ability to find work as well as their ability to complete daily tasks. Currently, support and relief for these people is costly, leaving many with few options.

Our focus is to study, improve, and design vital systems for prosthetic and orthotic devices. It is our goal to make these devices stronger, more precise, and more affordable.

For Students
Why It Matters
Your support of our research group would have real-world impacts! This team allows dedicated and ambitious engineering students to apply their knowledge in ways that can change lives. Your support directly enables the development of more affordable, high-performance prosthetics, while also training the next generation of engineers.
New members are welcome any time, no prior experience with prosthetics or biomechanics required. Stop by a Tuesday general body meeting or message us on Instagram to get added to the team's GroupMe, where we post build nights and onboarding info.
We host build nights every other Wednesday, a semesterly design review open to all ASME members, and travel to regional biomechanics and prosthetics competitions each spring. Exact dates are posted in our GroupMe and Instagram closer to each event.
This semester the team is prototyping a lighter-weight upper-limb prosthetic socket, testing grip-strength sensors for a myoelectric hand, and preparing a submission for the National ASME student design competition.
Strategic industry partnerships directly accelerate the design and development of affordable, high-performance assistive technologies while cultivating the next generation of engineering talent. We invite industry leaders and experts to collaborate, innovate, and share in our technical milestones.

Not at all! ASME welcomes students from all majors — industrial engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and more.
ASME national membership is $25/year for students. Most chapter events are free for registered ASME members, and general meetings are open to all UGA students.
General Body Meetings are held every Tuesday from 7:00–8:00 PM in Boyd GSRC, Room 101. No RSVP needed for weekly meetings.
Absolutely. Leadership elections happen each spring, and any active member is eligible to run regardless of year. Many of our current officers joined as first-year students.
Visit the Project Teams page and click on any team to view their membership form. No prior experience is required for most teams.
Event RSVP information will be posted alongside each event. Check the event description or our GroupMe for registration details.
ASME National offers several scholarships for student members. Project teams can apply for material and travel funding. Members competing at regional or national ASME events may receive travel support from the chapter budget.
